Man arrested for murder of mother, son in Conover, deputies say

The motive for these murders remains under investigation.

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A man was arrested for the murders of a mother and son in Conover, the Catawba County Sheriff's Office said.

According to deputies, 24-year-old Gonzalo Salinas-Cisneros was arrested and charged with two counts of murder for the death of 43-year-old Brandi Rodriguez and  24-year-old Jessie Rodriguez.

Deputies said the shooting happened late Sunday night at a home on White Tail Circle.

Cisneros was being held in the Catawba County Detention Center and was not issued a bond.

According to search warrants, Cisneros was smoking meth with two people when he stood up, said something wasn't right and shot the victims.

Investigators said after the shooting, Cisneros went outside and waved down deputies patrolling the neighborhood.

As deputies rode up the street, they said a second man flagged them down and said Cisneros shot and killed two people.

According to search warrants, investigators found drugs, weapons and drug paraphernalia inside the house.

Deputies said Cisneros eventually confessed to killing the two victims, and he admitted he entered the country illegally.

"Mr. Cisneros has been vetted by their agency, [Immigration and Customs Enforcement], before for deportation," Capt. Aaron Turk said. "But the types of crimes that he was accused of did not warrant deportation in those previous incidents."

The exact motive for these murders remains under investigation, deputies reported.
