CONCORD, N.C. – A man accused of shooting and killing two men in Massachusetts was arrested in Concord Tuesday.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Carmelo Kercado Jr. shot and killed 27-year-old Stephen Bodden and 28-year-old Fabio Tavares in New Bedford, Massachusetts on October 10. Investigators claim that Kercado shot one of the victims in the head and the other multiple times as they were driving in a vehicle.
Detectives said the vehicle crashed before Kercado ran from the scene. A warrant was obtained by local authorities in Massachusetts against Kercado on two counts of murder, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and two prior violent/drug crimes.
On Monday, U.S. Marshals in Massachusetts received a tip that Kercado was hiding from authorities at a home in Concord. On Tuesday, state and federal authorities verified Kercado's whereabouts at a home on Eagle View Place Northwest in Concord. After a brief standoff, he was taken into custody. He is currently awaiting extradition back to Massachusetts.
