CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Friday afternoon, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department officers responded to Harding University High School for reports of a crowd fighting.

Once officers arrived, they were able to get the scene under control.

Since then, a majority of police have either left or cancelled their response, police say.

At this time, police haven't released any further information on the cause of the fight or if any arrests were made.

According to CMPD Broadcastify, officials gathered that numerous students were fighting the student resource officer.

In a message to families, Harding University High's Principal Ward urged that student safety is their priority.

"This afternoon, law enforcement was called to a situation on our campus that may have threatened student safety," the message said. "This was done out of an abundance of caution and there is no continued threat. Thank you for your support of Harding University High."

A NBC Charlotte crew is on the way to the scene to gather more information. Stick with WCNC for the latest on this developing story.
