CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police made a second arrest in the murder of a woman in a north Charlotte apartment. 

Marquis Faulkner, 18, was charged with murder.

According to police, the shooting happened in the 1500 block of Catherine Simmons Ave. When police arrived at the scene they found 26-year-old Monica Smith suffering from an apparent gunshot wound inside an apartment. 

Medic transported her to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Police don't think Smith lived in the apartment. 

Police previously charged 24-year-old Natron McDougald in connection with the murder.

"It's another person who didn't go home tonight and another family who is suffering and we just ask for the community's help," Major Mike Campagna said.
