Police arrest two men after Elizabeth City shooting that seriously hurt young woman

When police arrived, they discovered a 19-year-old woman lying by a garage who was suffering from a gunshot wound.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — The Elizabeth City Police Department arrested two men after investigating a shooting that left a young woman injured on Sept. 23.

Police say at 9:12 p.m. officers received a call that there was a gunshot victim at 1507 Herrington Road. That's close to Elizabeth City State University.

When they arrived, they discovered a 19-year-old female lying by a garage who was suffering from a gunshot wound in the upper chest, near her left shoulder. 

The victim, identified as Tiana Shenay Thornton, was flown to Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of her severe injury. She is currently in stable condition. 

In an Oct. 1 update, the police department said they'd arrested Jovon Crutch, 22, and Coreantay Crutch, 21, and charged them with the shooting.

Jovon Crutch, who lives on Herrington Road in Elizabeth City, is facing charges of Assault with A Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflicting Serious Injuries and Trafficking Opium.

Coreantay Crutch, from Oak Grove Avenue in Elizabeth city, was charged with Assault with A Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflicting Serious Injuries.

Both men are in jail on $200,000 bonds. Their first court dates are in the first week of October.
