CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police investigators have a lot of questions after a shooting that led to lockdowns at three city schools Thursday morning.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers responded to a reported shooting near the intersection of Hamlin Park Drive and Brandon Forest Drive off Park Road.

CMPD says 17-year old Ashton White was shot in the leg as he got off of a CATS bus at the Quail Corners shopping mall just down the street from South Mecklenburg High School. He is believed to be a student.

Police are still trying to determine if White shot himself accidentally, as he first told a friend, or if someone shot him.

Police quickly put South Mecklenburg High School on lockdown, meaning nobody could go in our out of the school.

Police cars blocked each enterence to the school and decided to put two other schools, Quail Hollow Middle and Smithfield Elementary on lockdown as a precaution.

This is the list of schools that were on lockdown until around 2:30 p.m.

They did windup arresting the teenager, White, on a charge of possessing marijuana paraphernalia.

The lockdown was lifted this afternoon and all three schools dismissed on time.
