A suspect has been arrested and charged after a man was shot and killed near Bojangles' Coliseum Saturday night.
The shooting occurred in the 500 block of Briar Creek Road, authorities say the man was standing outside Smokey Joe's Cafe when unknown suspect(s) fired several shots into the parking lot and building.
The man was struck by a bullet and pronounced dead on scene by Medic.
On Sunday, December 30, detectives identified the victim as 47-year-old John Michael Songer. His next of kin has been notified.
During the investigation, CMPD detectives identified Jamie Lord Harris, 25, as the suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest.
Once Harris was located and arrested, he was transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, where he was charged with murder and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.
