Suspect takes his own life following police chase, officials say

It all started from an incident at CVS on Highway 127.

HICKORY, N.C. — Law enforcement officers were involved chasing a suspect from Hickory to Kings Mountain on Friday night.

It all started from an incident at CVS at 2521 NC 127 in Hickory. The pursuit ended on David Baptist Church Road in Kings Mountain.

Cleveland County Sheriff's Office, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and Kings Mountain Police were called in to help Hickory Police.

Police say one woman was arrested at the CVS and a man fled the scene, leading police on the chase.

Officers gathered around a wrecked car at the scene Friday.

Officers tried to track the suspect overnight, but due to darkness and officer safety, they were pulled from the woods as the suspect was believed to be armed.

Saturday morning, an officer saw the suspect walking off Highway 74 near Bethlehem Road. The officer called for backup.

The suspect saw officers coming and ran into a wooded area where he took his own life, according to officials.
