Woman gets unexpected marijuana delivery at north Charlotte home

She told police the address was correct, but the person whose name was on the package did not live at the home.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A mysterious drug delivery was made at a Charlotte woman’s home over the weekend.

She called 911 to report $2,000 worth of marijuana that came via the United States Postal Service. It happened Sunday afternoon on Sunset Boulevard.

The woman told police the marijuana delivery had her address, but she said it was addressed to someone who did not live at the home, and she did not know the person.

“That’s surprising it got through like that,” said neighbor Anthony White.

NBC Charlotte asked White what he would do if he found the delivery, and he gave a surprising response.

“I would smoke it, I am telling you the truth, I've got glaucoma, so I could use it,” White told NBC Charlotte.

However, trafficking marijuana is no laughing matter.

Earlier this year, a Rowan County man was charged with the crime. Police said he had 11 suspicious packages delivered to his home, including 11 pounds of marijuana in the most recent package.

In other cases, suspects have drugs delivered to someone else’s home.

“Normally they pick an apartment or a house that's either vacant or normally would be at work,” said Marvin Brown with the York County Drug Enforcement Unit in a previous interview.

In 2015, a Rock Hill woman received a UPS package at her home. According to a report, she was expecting hair products, but when she opened the box found packages of marijuana.

“I would recommend if you get a package to your house and it's not addressed to you call law enforcement,” Brown previously told NBC Charlotte.

The U.S. Postal Inspector in Charlotte told NBC Charlotte about 40,000 pounds of drugs were seized in the mail across the country in 2017, but he said he could not comment on the latest incident.

“It could have been a bomb, more than just drugs, that's a relief it was just marijuana,” White said.

No arrests have been made.
