CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Inside Charlotte-Douglas International Airport Wednesday, 38 terminally ill or chronically handicapped children and their families boarded a plane headed for Orlando, Florida, for an all-expense paid vacation to Walt Disney World.

The nonprofit charity "Ace & TJ’s Grin Kids" is paying for everything. Radio listeners donated funds for the trip as they have for the last 17 years. This year is the largest group to date.

"You can actually see what happens to these children and you get to see their expression," said Ace. "You know you're touching their lives because you see their lives change."

"It's always so special when one of the kids does something that the doctors said they would never do. Reach out to a character, stand up for the first time," added TJ.

"I am very excited to go," said ‘Grin Kid’ Liam Patton.

“It means everything,” said Liam’s Mom Renee. “We've been through a lot like the other families here. So this is very special for us to do fun things as a family for a change."

The families will enjoy a Character Breakfast and then group picture Thursday.

The Ace & TJ show can be heard on Channel 96.1 in the Charlotte Metro area.
