What's going around: Viruses, swimmer's ear

There are lots of sore throats and fevers as well as some mild stomach viruses.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Seasonal allergies and swimmer's ear are just some of what's going around this week in the Carolinas.

Let's start in Wesley Chapel at Novant Health Child and Adolescent Medical Group where viral illnesses are at the top of the list. There are lots of sore throats and fevers.

Doctors said these viruses are super common this time of year and go around every summer. They're also seeing some mild stomach viruses.

Now that it's pool season, they're also starting to see some swimmer's ear, bug bites, and rashes like poison ivy.

Common summertime sicknesses are also popping up at Novant Health Matthews Children's Clinic. Cases of the virus that can turn into hand foot and mouth disease dominated the doctor's office.

At Novant Health Mint Hill Family Medicine, the doctor said patients are coming in with itchy eyes and runny noses. Those are typical seasonal allergy concerns.

The office also treated cuts, scrapes, and bug bites as well as rashes and foodborne illnesses.
