If you have a bad case of FOMO, this article might help you feel better.
FOMO -- also known as the acronym for "fear of missing out" -- as well as many other words were just added to the Merriam-Webster unabridged dictionary.
The 2,000 recent additions reflected the younger generation's lingo. Another widely used acronym like ICYMI ( standing for "in case you missed it") was thrown into the dictionary, too. And the gender-neutral honorific of Mx. was added -- for those who don't feel they should need to choose between Mr. and Ms.
Here are a few other words or phrase you may recognize that were added:
- Bitcoin
- Cold case
- Cold turkey
- Dox
- Fit and flare
- Hella
- Nomophobia
- Revenge porn
- TMI
- Wacky tobacky
Merriam-Webster's editors tend to add words if they think they have "staying power," meaning they aren't fleeting terms that no one will remember come a decade later.
Thank goodness "waggle dance" made the cut.
