UNION COUNTY, N.C. — New photos have been released in a mysterious missing persons case. One week ago, Air Force veteran Forrest Treat vanished.
"My concern is that they're going to find a body instead of him," said Danielle Gibson, Forrest Treat's sister. "This is the most bizarre thing I've ever heard of someone just disappearing in the middle of the day."
NBC Charlotte learned authorities are working new leads.
Home surveillance videos from Glenn Hollow Drive in Union County show Forrest Stephen Treat on Monday, February 25. He put his wallet and cell phone in his work truck and then walked away.
"I'm terrified that he is hurt and that something really wrong has happened," said Gibson.
Officials say Forrest served in the U.S. Air Force and doesn't have any sort of criminal history. Tony Underwood with the Union County Sheriff's Office says authorities have searched on foot, used K9s and taken an aerial approach.
"We just don't know where he is and why he left," said Tony Underwood, a spokesperson for the Union County Sheriff's Office.
Forrest's family says this is out of character and doesn't make any sense. As time passes, the family says fear and uncertainty grows.
"I'm terrified that he is hurt and that something bad has happened," Gibson said. "I can't sleep. I can't work. I'm completely unfocused because my entire thought process is just on home and getting my brother home."
