ID=22553797CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - There have been six breaches of perimeter security fences at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in the last decade.

An Associated Press investigation found the Charlotte incidents are among 268 such breaches at 31 major U.S. airports between January 2004 and January 2015.

Fence jumpers took shortcuts. Intoxicated drivers crashed through barriers. Mentally ill intruders tried to hop flights. No breach was terrorism related.

Airports say breaches are relatively rare. Security measures typically include fences, cameras and patrols, but there are gaps.

Charlotte's highest profile breach involved 16-year-old Delvonte Tisdale, who in 2010 climbed into the wheel well of a US Airways flight bound for Boston.

The former head of the Transportation Security Administration told AP that investigators believe he got over a perimeter fence, possibly using an overhanging tree.
