CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Cars are being egged on the road in the Ballantyne area, and drivers don't know who's behind the prank.

"Egg hit here and here, splattered up here," said Laura Collins.

Collins was the way home with her 16-year-old son when it happened to her.

"Something hit the car," said Collins. "I wasn't sure what it was, but it started to smear up the side here and on the windshield."

"All of the sudden something smashed into your windshield?" asked NBC Charlotte's Xavier Walton.

"Yes," said Collins.

Collins said she didn't stop driving, and she didn't turn on her wipers.

"It shook me a little bit," said Collins. "Other folks on NextDoor, neighbor had their cars hit and called police."

Collins reacted correctly. If she had used her windshield wipers, the mess would have likely smeared and blocked her vision.

If this happens to you, and you can still see out the windshield, experts recommend driving to your destination before stopping to clean up the mess.
