CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Be prepared for rain and possible strong storms Thursday evening, Brad Panovich of the First Warn Storm Team said.
"Later today, not so much early afternoon, I'm talking this evening," Panovich said.
A system moving toward the Carolinas will arrive in the evening and there could be some strong storms associated with the system. There is a low risk for severe weather.
"The thing that is going to work in our favor is the timing. It will happen this evening and a lot of the energy will be over Georgia and South Carolina," Panovich explained. "I expect that we'll begin to see weaker storms move our way."
The biggest threat with the storms in the possibility of hail.
Rain will start to move into the North Carolina mountains around 4 p.m. Around 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. the line of thunderstorms will be in the Charlotte area. The worst of the weather will be around 9:30 p.m. in the Charlotte area.
"That time could actually work a little bit in our favor that it would deter the severe weather threat overall, but I still think we'll see a couple of good storms. I'm not looking at any widespread damage or tornado, but there could be some hail in this event as it moves in," Panovich said.
With the recent rainfall flash flooding is always going to be a concern.
