CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- With Hurricane Florence quickly approaching the Carolina coast, it's important to remember that people aren't the only ones leaving their home during the storm.

The Charlotte Humane Society is taking in animals from areas of the state with government-mandated evacuation orders and need to make room at their shelter.

The Charlotte-based animal shelter will need fosters for dogs, cats, and kittens. We're happy to report that dozens of Charlotteans stepped in to help these pets in need.

"Do you have a spare bedroom or bathroom? Please consider helping an animal in need during the weather emergency. The more animals we get to fosters, the more animals we can shelter from the coastal areas," the humane society wrote on their Facebook page.
