Charlotte mayor to recognize March 2 as 'Billy Graham Day'

Charlotte city mayor Vi Lyles is expected to dedicate a day to Reverend Billy Graham.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles declared that March 2, 2018 will be known as "Billy Graham Day" in the Queen City.

The proclamation was made during Monday evening's Charlotte City Council meeting. Lyles said the decree is a "citywide expression of gratitude and appreciation for all of the meaningful achievements in the life of Reverend Billy Graham."

Before he went on to become the man that many remembers as "America's Pastor," Rev. Graham grew up in a house on a dairy farm in Charlotte on Park Road. He passed away at his home in Montreat, N.C. last week at the age of 99.

The public is invited to pay their respects to Rev. Graham at the Billy Graham Library from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Tuesday. On Monday, over 5,600 people visited the library as Rev. Graham's body lies in repose.
