Charlotte movie theater reopens after evacuating, closing earlier

Movie goers at the theater told NBC Charlotte they had to evacuate, but that they will get reimbursed.

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — AMC Carolina Pavilion 22 on South Boulevard has been closed for the remainder of Monday, January 21. 

The Charlotte Fire Department was on the scene. 

AMC told WCNC that there was not a fire. Instead they said the fire alarm was set off by an issue with the HVAC unit that caused some smoke. 

According to AMC, the issue has been resolved and the theater should reopen by around 5 p.m.

Movie goers at the theater told NBC Charlotte they had to evacuate, but that they will get reimbursed. 

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department did not respond to an incidents at the movie theater.
