MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. -- Emergency crews recovered the body of a teen drowning victim following a search at Mountain Island Lake.

Police responded to the report of a missing swimmer around 4 p.m. Monday along Mountain Island Road. When crews arrived at the scene, they were told a 15-year-old went missing and was gone for about 15 minutes before police were called.

Emergency personnel from multiple fire departments responded to the scene and located the victim, identified as 15-year-old A Pao of Charlotte.

Officials said the NC Medical Examiner's Office is working to determine the cause of death, but investigators said witness accounts indicate an accidental drowning.
