GASTONIA, N.C.-- Gastonia Police continue to search for a gunman who detectives believe may be responsible for several armed robberies in the past week.

The latest robbery happened just before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night when a man robbed a Kingsway off Bessemer City Road at gunpoint.

Detectives are sifting through evidence to determine if this latest crime is related to a string of other robberies believed to be connected, including two at Family Dollar stores and one at a fast food restaurant.

During the armed robbery at a fast food restaurant on Tuesday night, police said a gunman stormed the restaurant and robbed a 74-year-old woman of her purse.

"[He] pointed a gun at me [as I was] sitting over here at the table, turned the table over on me!" the woman can be heard in a 911 call. "I hid my pocketbook, and he got it! You need to be out here!"

Robbie Campbell knows the 74-year-old woman who was robbed, and he hopes police will catch the gunman.

"I think it's an absolute shame that you can't just shop and do what you've got to do without having to constantly turn your head and wondering if somebody's just going to knock you over the head or stick a gun in your face," Campbell said.

Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to call Gaston County Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000.
