CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A house fire was under investigation in east Charlotte Friday evening.

It happened around 5 p.m. in the 5200 block of Galway Dr. near the Plaza and Milton Rd.

Firefighters said flames were shooting out of the windows of the home when they arrived on scene. There was someone inside the house at the time who got out safely.

It took more than 30 firefighters about 20 minutes to get the fire under control. NBC Charlotte learned the home has extensive interior damage and could be a total loss.

A gas line also made the fire more intense severe before crews arrived, officials said.
