Man gives police in riot gear hugs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- In the midst of the protests and violence in uptown Wednesday night, one man went around giving free hugs to spread the love amid all this violence.

Ken Nwadike is the founder of the Free Hugs Project and a peace activist. He went up to officers and gave them hugs no matter who they were. But when he was confronted by protesters who said he shouldn't be hugging white officers, he stood his ground.

"It's about staying neutral," Nwadike said. "That's what's important."

"Just as I see them as human beings, we're all human beings. The uniform doesn't make him a robot. Just like your uniform, your skin color, doesn't make you a criminal."

Other people in the crowd came to the front of the crowd to say they stood with the guy and just because one person did something bad, doesn't mean everyone is.
