CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Workers who provide airline meals protested outside Charlotte Douglas Airport Sunday morning, saying airlines make billions but they barely make a living wage.
Members of the Unite Here union called it their “Fed Up Protest."
They work for a third-party contractor named LSG Sky Chefs that has a facility at Charlotte Douglas Airport. They say they took cutbacks after 9-11 -- nearly 16 years ago -- but their pay hasn’t been restored at the same levels as airline employees.
One LSG employee we spoke to says he’s been a delivery driver for the company for 37 years and makes just over $15 an hour. He said he doesn’t believe that’s a fair wage for that much time on the job.
The group is making a road trip to other large airports served by American Airlines like Philadelphia Washington D.C., before protesting at a shareholders meeting in New York.
