Missing 78-year-old man found safe in Asheville

Officials say Kermit Perkins was taking the boat to Catawba County to have it serviced and he was supposed to return home after.

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A 78-year-old Lincoln County man who was reported missing Wednesday was found safe in Asheville early Thursday morning, police said. 

Kermit Perkins was last seen at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was driving a gray 2005 Dodge Dakota with NC license plate DMX7071, pulling a boat trailer with a bass boat on it. The boat's registration is CL49560.  

Officials say Perkins was taking the boat to Catawba County to have it serviced and he was supposed to return home after. A Silver Alert was issued for Perkins, who was found by Asheville Police. A family member then went to Asheville and took him home, deputies said.

Perkins is described as a white male, 5 feet and 9 inches tall, weighing around 170 pounds. He has blue eyes and short gray hair.  

He was last known to be wearing khaki shorts, a burgundy striped shirt, beige crocs, and a blue hat.  He lives in the 3600 block of Saunders Street in Lincolnton.

He has been entered NCIC as missing.
