CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Fire Department safely put out two house fires Saturday afternoon, but no injuries were reported in either case.

Charlotte Fire said a fire in the 11800 block of Rock Canyon Drive near Ballantynetook 23 firefighters 10 minutes to control.

Firefighters said flames could be seen from the roof. Neighbors said the family told them their dog saved their lives, alerting them with a bell it wears on its neck.

Then hours later, the fire department announced 23  firefighters controlled a house fire in the 6500 block of Mallard Park Drive in 14 minutes. No one was injured in this fire.

Both fires remain under investigation.

With dropping temperatures, this is a busy time for home fires. Officials say if you use a space heater, keep them at least three feet from anything that can burn.
