STATESVILLE, N.C. — A pedestrian was hit and killed on Interstate 77 at mile marker 51 in Statesville, officials confirm. The incident was near the intersection of I-77 and I-40.

The call came in at 7:22 p.m. Iredell Fire Rescue, EMS, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol were all called to the scene

At the scene, officials confirmed one person had died.

I-77 was closed for a little over an hour, then re-opened one lane, and was completely reopened around 9:45 p.m.

NCHP is leading the investigation.

Officials have not said if any charges were filed in relation to the incident, or if anyone else was hurt.
