Columbia, SC (WLTX) - South Carolina has some of the highest utility bills in the United States, a new study finds.

The survey, conducted by Move.org, looked at each state's utilities in these key categories: electricity, natural gas, internet, cable, and water. The total for our state: $473.78 per month. That's $18 more than Georgia, and $56 more than North Carolina, by comparison.

The authors of the study came up with a formula that multiple average national consumption rates by the average costs of services in each state.

The company says state-by-state information was unavailable for cable and water, so we used the national averages to supply those figures for each state. When determining internet costs, they looked at a service level that included speeds of 60 Mbps, unlimited data, and Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL).

When all that was factored in, this was the list that was created, with South Carolina coming in at number seven.

1. Hawaii

2. Alaska

3. Rhode Island

4. Connecticut

5. New York

6. New Hampshire

7. South Carolina

8. Massachusetts

9. Vermont

10. Maine.

The study also found that South Carolina has the second highest natural gas bill at $150.03, and the ninth highest internet bill.
