CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The freezing cold weather and tightened security didn't dampen the runners' enthusiasm during the Novant Health Charlotte Marathon Saturday morning.

The annual marathon gave runners a view of the Queen City while raising proceeds for Novant Health.

The race kicked off at 7:30 a.m. in the freezing cold, but runners at the marathon told NBC Charlotte the weather was actually perfect for the event.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police beefed up patrols for the marathon following recent attacks across the nation.
