WCNC NBC Charlotte wins 3 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards

WCNC NBC Charlotte has been honored for excellence in journalism winning three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.

CHARLOTTE, NC – When it comes to being recognized for excellence in journalism, the Edward R. Murrow Awards are the gold standard. That’s why WCNC NBC Charlotte is proud to announce the station was awarded 3 top honors from the prestigious Radio Television Digital News Association (RTNDA). The TEGNA NBC affiliate won regional Edward R Murrow awards for Overall Excellence, Excellence in Social Media and Best Website.

In the category of Overall Excellence, WCNC NBC Charlotte was recognized for its outstanding coverage of Hurricane Irma, racial tensions in the region, as well its investigative reporting on issues that directly affect families in the Carolinas. For excellence in Social Media, the station won for a digital original story about a local teacher who greets his students every day with a unique handshake. It was a heart-warming and inspiring story that went viral, reaching over 97 million people. WCNC NBC Charlotte’s digital dominance also includes wcnc.com. WCNC.COM won a regional Murrow award for Best Website.
