KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- A photo of a police officer making an apparent "finger gun" gesture is under investigation by Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officials.
The photo, shared at least 3,800 times since it was posted Friday, July 29, to Facebook, shows the officer making the gesture to a person who says he was standing outside a barbershop.
"Feeling threatened," the Facebook user writes.
That officer has been identified as Tim Millard, according to a news release distributed Saturday. Kalamazoo County prosecutor Jeff Getting spoke with police chief Jeff Hadley last night and was told the photo is being investigated.
“When I saw the photo last night on social media, I immediately called Chief Hadley to notify him,” Getting said in the release. “Chief Hadley assured me that he is investigating the matter and has spoken to the Officer in the photograph.
"I have every confidence that Chief Hadley will handle this matter professionally and appropriately within the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.”
The status of officer within the department is not known at this time.
