Democratic party leaders blast Republican Dan Bishop over drug prices

Dan McCready said he will continue to focus on health care and drug costs, calling it the single biggest issue in the race.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mecklenburg Democratic Party leaders continued their criticism of Republican congressional candidate, Dan Bishop over prescription drug prices.

Bishop is running against Democrat Dan McCready in the Ninth District.

Party chairwoman, Jane Whitley held a news conference where she chided Bishop for being the lone “no” vote on a measure to allow pharmacists to discuss low-cost alternative drugs with consumers.

She said, “Dan Bishop was the only Senator to vote against a bill that would help American families afford prescription drugs.”

Bishop responded in a statement saying he did favor the measure but adding the final, “House version was added to the Senate calendar at the last minute and…I don’t vote for bills without an opportunity to read them. This is a completely misleading attack.”

Pharmacist, Aquila Ingram was one of the health care providers who took part in the news conference said she had seen case after case where people, especially those on fixed incomes, could not afford their medication.

“Its time for a change. We are in health care, not a business.

McCready himself fired the first salvo yesterday at Bishop, saying, “health care costs too much and the politicians who are in the pocket of big pharma are doing nothing about it.”

McCready said he will continue to focus on health care and drug costs calling it the single biggest issue in the race.
