Last year was a historic season for Lincoln Charter and point guard Kody Shubert as the Eagles brought home Lincoln County's first ever boys state basketball championship.

"So much pride,” Shubert said. “It doesn't get better than being a Lincoln Charter Eagle."

This year Shubert and company are hoping to double down and repeat as champs.

"We're trying to go back to back and win another state championship,” said Shubert. “It'd be really special to bring two back to Lincoln County."

The Eagles return the core of that team including Shubert, who is averaging 19 points and 5 assists per game – which he doesn’t care about at all.

“We're a family,” he said. “Nobody cares about what they're getting. We don't care what happens. We just want to win."

And Shubert and the Eagles win in the classroom too.

“We have a team GPA of about 3.4 and that's pretty good,” said Shubert.

Next year Shubert will attend Presbyterian College in South Carolina and play Division I basketball, but that's not until his days as an Eagle are over.

“Exciting but also sad at the same time, he said, “but overall exciting. I'm excited to start the new chapter."
