CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A new PSA is a haunting reminder of the dangers of texting and driving.
It features a little girl texting her dad as he drives home for Christmas. Her dad never makes it. The film ends showing a photograph of the father and daughter at the scene of a roadside memorial and hits you hard.
The creators want it to because the consequences are real.
According to the CDC, every day in the United States, nine people die and more than 1,000 are hurt in crashes involving a distracted driver. Those numbers add up to more than 3,000 people killed every year.
Sending or reading a text message takes your eyes off the road for an average of about five seconds. In that time, going 55 mph, you go the length of a football field.
Troopers across the Carolinas are cracking down on distracted drivers and are urging everyone to disconnect and drive.
