Maddox Ritch disappeared from a park in September while out with his father. The 6-year-old Gaston County boy's body was later found and the medical examiner says he did from accidental drowning.

A family desperately searched for a 4-year-old boy after he went missing from the family's home in south Charlotte. Police and k-9 units searched the area for hours before finding the boy safe in an apartment about 100 yards away.

A powerful hurricane formed in the Atlantic in September and the storm was headed straight for the Carolinas. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper warned residents to prepare for a catastrophic storm.
#6 Missing Colorado woman feared dead
Kelsey Berreth, 29, was last seen in public on Thanksgiving shopping with her daughter in her hometown of Woodland Park, Colorado. Her fiance Patrick Frazee was arrested and charged with murder. Authorities continue to search for Berreth's body.
#5 Mom shoots attempted carjacker
Around 10 p.m. on July 4, a woman and her two toddlers were at a gas station in Dallas, Texas when a man tried to steal her car with her kids inside. Officers say the mom quickly jumped into the car and asked to suspect to stop. When he refused, she pulled a gun from her glove compartment and shot the suspect in the head.
#4 Hardee's customers exposed to hepatitis A
The health director of the Mecklenburg County Health Department urged customers of a Charlotte Hardee's to receive a vaccination after an employee was diagnosed with Hepatitis.

Pepperidge Farms recalled four types of Goldfish crackers in June because there was a chance whey powder used in the seasonings contained Salmonella.
