New North Carolina coach Mack Brown earned the star of his 2019 recruiting class Wednesday when 4-star quarterback from Sun Valley Sam Howell signed with North Carolina.

Howell picked the Tar Heels over Florida State, who he committed to in March. Howell visited North Carolina in November and it was rumored for the last couple of weeks leading up to the early signing period that Howell would flip to the home state Tar Heels.

Howell is one of the nation's top recruits and he broke Chris Leak's North Carolina record for career yards. According to 247 Sports, Howell is the No. 2 ranked prospect in North Carolina and No. 3 pro-style quarterback prospect.
