CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Saturday was a tough day for West Charlotte High. The team fell short to South Central High School in the state championship.

But the team overcame a lot to get to that far.

The West Charlotte Lions have seen controversy over the course of the season, including the controversial racial slur incident coming from an Ardrey Kell player ahead of the two schools' match-up.

The Lions may not have won the championship, but the team's pride and the community's support for them hasn't faded.

"These young men have worked hard, we're still proud of them," a fan said.
