Cam’s Thanksgiving Jam feeds largest group of kids ever

The kids were treated to food, games, a D.J., Sir Purr, Harry the Happy Dragon, face painters, and balloon artists at TopGolf.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 1,2000 underprivileged kids in the Charlotte community ate a delicious Thanksgiving meal and got to hang out with Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton Monday night.

It was the seventh annual Cam's Thanksgiving Jam, presented by the Cam Newton Foundation. This year's event, which was held at Topgolf for the second time, partnered Newton's foundation with Harris Teeter to provide food for all of the kids. As is tradition, Newton helped serve the meals, holding down the macaroni and cheese and stuffing trays.

"We wanted it to be bigger than last year," Newton said. “Last year, we kind of closed off half of Topgolf while the other half was still open to the public, this year, the whole Topgolf is this event. And each and every year it’s expanding and expanding.”

This group was the largest ever with 400 more guests than past years.

The kids were treated to food, games, golf, a D.J., Sir Purr, Harry the Happy Dragon, face painters, and balloon artists.

In addition to enjoying the holiday feast, the children walked away with a full second Thanksgiving meal to prepare at home.

"Our mission and our goal this year was to feed upwards of 1,200 kids. Our mission next year will be to feed upwards of 1,200, so hopefully 2,000," Newton said.

The families were chosen through Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina’s Kids Café Program.
