3 men walked toward a single mom's door at night. That's when they realized it was a mistake

We've seen criminals caught in the act on Ring doorbell cameras. But now, suspicious people are looking for which homes have them and are getting scared off.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte mother is thankful three suspicious men were scared off by her doorbell camera, but is worried about what would have happened if she didn't have it.

"It gives me a sense of security," Tyeasha VanBuren said.

The video captured by her cameras at her south Charlotte home showed three men walk towards VanBuren's front door. Then, one of them grabbed another's arm and said, "No don't! They got that doorbell with that camera now."

The suspicious group had spotted her camera on her front door.

"As he was coming up to the doorsteps, the guy kind of pulled him and said, oh, no they have a camera," VanBuren said as she watched the video.

VanBuren, a single mother, said she doesn't want to think about what would have happened if they weren't scared away by the gadget.

"My worst fear is someone breaking in, and at that time of that footage, my daughter and I were here alone," she said. "So, that was a big fear."

Law enforcement has also acknowledged that the high tech tool is helping to fight crime.

"Well it's a big help to us because it's a deterrent to crime as well," Deputy Larry Christian with Smith County Sheriff's Office in Texas said.

VanBuren said criminals better second guess messing with people these days because of the technological advancements in doorbell cameras.

"They're going to have a face, they're going to know the sound of your voice, so it will be very easy for you to get caught," she said.
