3-year-old ejected from car after chase, crash in downtown Columbia

Officers say the suspects were speeding through an intersection and ran into a mom driving with her toddler.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A three-year-old boy was ejected from his mom's vehicle after two suspects crashed into their car in downtown Columbia.

The collision happened just after 4 a..m on Elmwood Avenue at North Main Street.

Police say two suspect--22-year-old Joe Bryant and 20-year-old Quintin Haymon--were speeding on North Main Street in a Kia Sportage that didn't have its headlights on. Police say the Kia went through a red light at Elmwood Avenue and hit a Chevy Malibu in the intersection.

The collision caused the Malibu to spin multiple times, ejecting the boy from the car in his child safety seat. The child was taken to the hospital for treatment, but his exact condition was not released.

Officers also determined that before the crash, the two stole a 2014 Honda motorcycle from the 3900 block of Bentley Drive. A witness followed the suspects, and the motorcycle fell out of the back of their SUV.

Both are charged with grand larceny. Traffic charges are pending against Haymon, who police say was driving the Kia.
