BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — One person was killed in a head-on crash in Burke County Thursday afternoon, North Carolina state troopers said.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Miller Board Road near Shoupes Grove Road around 4 p.m. on Sept. 29. When troopers got to the scene, they determined a 2016 Dodge Ram was traveling north when the driver crossed the centerline and hit a 2017 Nissan Rogue head-on.
Troopers said a person in a 2005 Toyota Camry swerved to avoid the crash, ran off the road and hit a tree.
The driver of the Nissan Rogue, identified as 42-year-old Jennifer Nicole Rector, died at the scene. Three passengers in the Rogue, including two children, were rushed to area hospitals for treatment. The driver of the Toyota was not hurt, according to troopers.
Following the investigation, state troopers charged the driver of the Dodge Ram, 69-year-old Angelo Messineo, with misdemeanor death by vehicle. Messineo was taken to a Burke County hospital with minor injuries.
No further information was provided by troopers.
