CHARLOTTE, N.C. — All lanes of Interstate 485 inner loop between Ballantyne and Pineville have reopened after a truck carrying vegetable oil overturned Tuesday afternoon.
Shortly after 1 p.m., emergency personnel responded to reports of a crash involving an overturned truck. Once on-scene, first responders found the truck had spilled vegetable oil on the roadway.
The crash had closed all lanes of the inner loop between Johnston Rd (Exit 61) and Pineville-Matthews Road / NC 51 (Exit 64).
A few minutes after 5 p.m., the lanes were reopened in time for the evening rush hour.
The outer loop lanes, which travel from Pineville towards Matthews, were congested as a result of the crash. The left lane of the outer loop was initially also closed as a result of the crash, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Medic treated one person for non-life-threatening injuries.
Crews were able to upright the truck and tow it away before cleaning the vegetable oil from the roadway.
Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes, including Pineville-Matthews Road via Rea Road, or Lancaster Highway via Johnston Road.
