Crash causes major delays on I-77 in south Charlotte

Northbound I-77 was backed up several miles due to a crash near Clanton Road. Drive times into Charlotte from Rock Hill were over an hour.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A crash in south Charlotte caused major delays for drivers on Interstate 77.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes just before Clanton Road (exit 7). All lanes were open by 8:50 a.m. At one point, traffic was backed up for about two miles on I-77 with drivers trying to get into Uptown from South Carolina and I-485.

For drivers coming from Rock Hill, drive times were more than 90 minutes. If you're coming from Fort Mill, it was about 80 minutes into Charlotte on I-77. By 9 a.m., traffic was flowing smoothly into Uptown Charlotte with all lanes clear.
