CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Interstate 77 southbound has reopened after a serious crash south of Uptown Charlotte near South Tryon Street (Exit 6A).
Emergency personnel closed all southbound lanes of I-77 starting at Clanton Road (Exit 7) in response to the crash. Detours included taking South Tryon Street, which runs parallel to the east of the interstate.
Medic said they assisted seven patients, two of which had serious injuries. Delays stretched back miles into Uptown Charlotte.
Earlier Wednesday, one person was killed in a crash on I-77 at the interchange with I-85, which is located just north of Charlotte.
