Medic: One dead following crash involving a bus

According to Medic, one person is dead and two others were injured following a crash in the 1600 block of Eastway Drive.

According to Medic, one person is dead and two others were injured following a crash in the 1600 block of Eastway Drive.

Medic reports Eastway Drive is currently closed between Hilliard Dr. and Shamrock Dr. as the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department investigates this fatal crash. Drivers should use Kilborne Dr. or Shamrock as alternate routes.

A separate and unrelated collision involving a CMS bus occurred nearby, but had nothing to do with the fatal crash.

According to CMPD, three vehicles were involved in the crash. Upon arriving at the scene, officers located a Toyota Tacoma truck, a Pontiac G6 and a Cabarrus County Transit bus.

The driver of the Pontiac was pronounced deceased on the scene by Medic. The driver of the bus was transported with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota was not injured, according to officials.

Officials believe the driver of the Pontiac lost control of the vehicle as it entered a slight curve in the road. The Pontiac then crossed into the opposing lanes and struck the rear of the Toyota. The Pontiac continued sliding and was struck on the passenger side by the bus.

The Toyota and the bus were originally heading in the opposite direction of the Pontiac, police say.

Detectives with the case are hoping to speak to the driver of a white Audi that was seen speeding in the area seconds before the crash.

There is no evidence at this time that the drivers of the Toyota or the bus were violating any traffic laws.

NBC Charlotte will update this developing story.
