LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A Lincoln County Sheriff's deputy and woman are recovering after a traffic accident on Wednesday.

It happened in the 3900 block of E NC Highway 27 around 4:20 p.m. in Lincolnton.

Deputy Shannon Bridges was responding to a 911 hangup call. He was pulling in the driveway when his cruiser hit a van head-on, the sheriff's office said.

The woman driving the van was pinned in the vehicle with leg injuries, according to deputies. She was freed by first responders then taken to Caromont Medical Center in Gastonia.
