Davidson Police identify 64-year-old woman killed by car

Police closed Main Street in downtown Davidson for several hours as part of the crash investigation.

DAVIDSON, N.C. — A 64-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car in downtown Davidson Thursday afternoon, according to Davidson police

Investigators said 64-year-old Suzanne Younts was hit on North Main Street near Chairman Blake Lane a little after 1 p.m. Thursday. Medic said Younts was pronounced dead at the scene.

This deadly crash a surprise to some who often walk in the area and say they never thought to second-guess their street safety before.

“I think people are very safe and that’s why people feel safe enough to cross without, maybe, paying too much attention when they really should," Davidson resident Alexandra Barteldt said.

Others add it's a warning for everyone to be more aware.

“It was scary," Megan Sneed said. "A good reminder for me to pay attention when I’m our running and look for the cars.”

The accident is the latest on Main Street in Davidson after a garbage truck hit and killed a pedestrian and dog in 2016.

Police have not yet identified the driver involved in this most recent crash or said if any charges will be filed. Anyone with information regarding the accident should contact the Davidson Police Department or North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
