Police identify man found dead in northeast Charlotte

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are conducting a death investigation after a man was found dead Friday morning.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are conducting a homicide investigation after a man was found dead in northeast Charlotte Friday morning.

According to CMPD, officers responded to a 911 call after a person told dispatchers they found a man dead in a wooded area off Newell Baptist Church Road a little before 10 a.m. Detectives said the victim was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Damien Alonzo Mackins II.

NBC Charlotte talked to concerned parents because the incident happened near a church and a school.

“I just wanted to make sure everything was okay. I have a five year old here,” said parent Nia Mcadoo. “I was very worried, but the school seems fine everyone inside is good.”

Investigators have not named any suspects in the case. No arrests have been made.
