Death investigation underway after inmate found dead in Gaston County Jail

Gaston County Jail found a 56-year-old white male inmate unresponsive.

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Gaston County Sheriff's are investigating a death after an inmate was found dead in the Gaston County Jail Sunday.

Gaston County Jail found a 56-year-old white male inmate unresponsive.

Jails personnel performed CPR, but was unable to revive the inmate, officials said.

The inmate's name will be released once the family has been notified of his death.

The NC State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is investigating the death.
