Lincoln Co. daycare worker accused of pulling 18-month-old girl's hair

The daycare employee was seen on surveillance video pulling the hair of an 18-month-old girl, according to deputies.

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. -- A Lincolnton woman is accused of pulling an 18-month-old girl's hair at a daycare center.

On March 23, the mother of the 18-month-old girl told the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office she received a call from the Mini Academy Daycare Center on Unity Church Road in Denver telling her that another child had pulled her daughter's hair. At the time of the phone call, the mother was told by the daycare staff some of her daughter's hair was pulled out but the daughter was OK.

Several hours after the reported incident, a staff member at the daycare told the mother that they reviewed surveillance videos and determined that a staff member had pulled the girl's hair and not another child.

The employee, 23-year-old Rebecca DeGregory, was terminated from the daycare, deputies say. DeGregory was charged with one misdemeanor count of child abuse.

She was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

According to state records, the daycare is listed as five-stars, the highest possible rating. The owner of the facility declined to comment on the case.
